It seems like I do all my best work on Tuesdays for some reason.

I was supposed to make some glass fish yesterday. I drifted onto making a goldfish, found myself intrigued by the fins and decided to have a go at layering strokes of glass to make wings. I made a full bead pendant before thinking that perhaps now was the perfect time to at last make those phoenix birds I dreamed of..?

So here they are. Two little fire birds, made with soft glass. I love the tint of it, it's only one colour but the flame changes the nuiances of it depending on how much heat it got.

It's just a plain bead with wings, tail and beak. And they probably won't last very long. Perhaps if I put them hanging in my window...

omg these are wonderful and i love how mistakes can turn into something more beautiful. i feel bad that they are fragile i would looove to buy these pendants and incorporate them into my work. but hey its alright. they can work out as nice glass figures you can put on shelves or in keepsake cabinets with see through glass doors. just need to make a stand for them. all and all they are awesome and i love the phoenix. its like my most fav mythical creature. also the twin is equally as great too. dont give up keep trying. i love these pieces.

What do you mean "they won't last long". Beautiful stuff. I've always wanted to do glass work. Any recommendations on how I could start learning?

They are so very frail. You see, the thinnest threads of glass are like dental floss.. so I could probably never send these in the mail, and they might break simply from holding them too hard.

I dropped one of them during the photo shoot and there was some panicked yet gentle juggling trying to catch it without crushing it in my hand... O.o

Well, in learning, I recommend taking a weekend class. I never took any courses but have a basic understanding of similar hot crafts and gas installation through goldsmithing. So instead of paying for a course I bought some basic material and a book.. Unless you have an affinity for trial and error, I strongly recommend the investment in taking a class and getting it right from start.
