Amber Phoenix egg pendant by fairyfrog Amber Phoenix egg pendant by fairyfrog
I keep working with my reverse engraving experiments!

This time a dark cognac tinted piece of assembled amber.
Since amber is an organic resin it can be melted or even burned. This is used in order to put little insects in the pieces or make them more desirable in general. Many pieces of "natural" amber is really assembled and pressed into molds. Usually the price is a giveaway but nearly all amber that's sold today has been manipulated in some way.

Anyway, decided to try an idea for a rising phoenix on this rather dark piece.

It's very good! A fairy would be interesting inside amber! Greetings!

Thank you!

I feel more and more attached to the phoenix, considering my OC, Ember and such.. drifting further and further towards the phoenix symbolism in my life for better and for worse. I'm in a bit of a difficult time in my life right now and the phoenix feels like a very helpful and hope-inducing figure right now. :)

Thank you!

I picked the brain of a very "old in the game" jewel tradesman who hooks me up with cabochons and other stuff. I learned a -lot- about what amber is, and all the faux stuff there is out there. Working this material was very different from working natural composed amber as well. This had a flour'y/dusty feel to it. And didn't smell as strong of pine. :)

i was thinking the other day.... i collect monster high dolls and the ghost girl has clear legs...do you think this could be done on it?

I think so.. only problem is that the pattern would end up on the outside of the leg.. but if you would do something on the back of the calf it might look cool at the front.

Or if you chopped it off, split it in two, did the intaglio and then shut the halves back with resin. But that would be heck of a job and might ruin the poor doll... O.o
